GlossyBox (Germany) May 2012

I really love beauty blogs right now. Especially ones who are using the same JolieBox and GlossyBox subscriptions as me. But the thing is that  people always review the stuff and blog about them as soon as they get them! I can’t make up my mind about whether I like something or not until I’ve been trying it out for at least 2 weeks!

Anyway, here are my thoughts about May’s German GlossyBox.

I was quite excited to read the magazine but then I realised that it’s all in German… oh well, makes for good practice!

L’Oreal Ever Pure Shampoo

I use special shampoo from Douglas, so I was not so keen to try this. But I gave it a go. It’s specially for coloured hair, it says. And apparently has “A sulfate-free formula that won’t strip colour and leaves hair hydrated and manageable”.

I have hair that is ruined (bleached to death) from a certain Japanese hairdresser, and I cover the yellow from this with red/brown dye. So my hair is very dyed. When I use this shampoo, it makes my hair very squeaky, and has a pleasant scent. But it’s not really doing backflips for me. I use it in conjunction with the other hair product in the pack and it’s doing wonders for my hair but I feel that that is down to the other product rather than this. At the end of the day, shampoo is shampoo. I’d rather either spend less (It’s about 5 euros, according to the internet) for a similar product, or pay more for a slightly fancier product.

The Body Shop Rainforest Radiance Hair Butter

This also is for coloured hair (I vaguely remember filling in a survey when I joined) and is probably my favourite product from this box. I bought a fancy-pants hair mask (wow, I should have shopped online… I paid way more for it…) a few days before this arrived and while this hair butter is not exactly its equal, it gives it a very good fight!

You have to comb this through your damp, shampooed hair and then leave it for 5 minutes. This is the hardest part for me, because I hate waiting around for things. I make an effort and find all the things I can do in that time – I was even cleaning the shower the other morning!

It leaves my hair so soft and silky, I’d buy it again for sure. Even when I skip a wash, my hair stays silky and not greasy in the slightest. Highly recommended - it gets the Charlotte stamp of approval!

Michael O’Rourke 3 Way Hairspray

I rarely use hairspray so I’ve only used this once. On its spray nozzle it has 3 settings; 1 for light hold and styling, 2 for shaping and setting and 3 for finishing and serious hold. I used it on my fringe a few times to keep it in place and it has a really nice smell to it, but the hold wasn’t so strong. I only used 2 on my fringe, but maybe I should try number 3 next time. Since I don’t really use it, I guess this sample will last me a while but I don’t think I’d bother to buy the full version.

Jil Sander Eve perfume

I seem to be getting a lot of tiny perfume samples right now. This one is pretty fresh and fruity. I don’t really do fresh and fruity, but if I did, this would be very nice. The scent is really refreshing, though it didn’t last so long on the skin. I sprayed it liberally on my wrists and neck and after walking around town for a bit, I could no longer smell it. I won’t be buying this, but maybe keep it in my handbag for times when I want to feel … fruity.

L’Oreal Nude Maguque (Out of shot)

This was a sample attached to a card so I took it away without realising for the photo. I’ve been using Maybelline’s BB cream (which was my first one ever) so I was looking forward to trying this.

I tore open the sachet to do my make up while watching the latest Jenna Marbles video. I wasn’t really paying attention and squirted it onto my hand. I looked down to see a while, grainy cream on my hand. Thinking this can’t possibly be BB cream, I checked the packaging. It seems that the cream blends in with your own tone to make the perfect shade! I put it on my face and sure enough, it started turning pinky beige! The slight grainy-ness to it melted away to a smooth texture on my skin.

I know I said that the hair butter was my favourite but this was a very, very close second. It felt lovely on my skin, the colour was perfect and it lasted all day without making me greasy. Not only will I be buying this but I will be actively seeking this out to buy – and I don’t normally say that! It seems to be about 10 pounds in the UK and 13 Euros here in Germany. I think that’s fairly reasonable. I can’t wait to be wearing it every day!

I’m really glad I found all these make up subscription services. I really enjoy getting all these products, and it means that I don’t need to buy very many things since there’s always something new to try in my boxes!

I’d love to hear from you if you have tried any of the products in this post!
